Favorite Narrator
My favorite narrator has to be in Ernest Hemingway's, The Old Man and the Sea. The novel is told in third person, so we know nothing about the narrator. However, the narrator is able to tell the readers what is going on in the old man's mind, as well as what he has gone through.
The novel follows the thoughts and experience of a fisherman in Cuba. Although the plot is very simple, I really enjoyed the narration. It has been a while since I read this book, but I remember how the narrator knew about the thoughts and background of the old fisherman. The book deals with an old fisherman's quest to catch a marlin, and details how he struggles trying to bring it in the boat. Before he caught the marlin, he was unlucky, and looked badly upon by his town because of this. He manages to harpoon the giant fish, but on his way back, it gets devoured by sharks. He is left only with the skeleton of the marlin.
This is my favorite, because although the plot is very simple, the narrator describes the emotions of the old man, as well as what he is going through. Others will enjoy this novel, because it dives into the thoughts of a man struggling to catch a fish, which drags his boat for days. I really enjoyed this novel, and so will others.
