Literacy Project Reflection
About My Project:
The project that I created was intended to spread the message on "Why People Read". The option that I chose was a video, compiled of different people discussing why they enjoy reading. The people in the video were everyday people, from family members to friends. The purpose of my project choice was to share some of the reasons why people enjoy reading, in the attempt to inspire others to pick up a book, and read.
Why does my video tell this story or present this information?
My video presents this information in a way that everyone understands what I am trying to get across from them. I chose to have family and friends in this video, because in the video were regular people, that they could relate to. My reason for creating this video was to encourage people to pick up a book, and see where it takes them. By learning what others enjoy about books, I was hoping some people would become inspired, and do the same.
Why was this the best way to persuade my viewers?
This was the best way to persuade my viewers, because I find that I can get my message across the most effectively through a video. I also find that videos are more engaging, and will attract more attention than a poster. There are hundreds of different posters I have seen at U of D, but none of them really have stuck out to me. I feel that a video has a longer lasting impact, and will be more effective at encouraging students to read.
Did you do anything special to help express your message?
One thing special that I did to express my message was include music in my video (to keep people engaged) and I compiled my clips in short parts. I originally had about eight different interviews with people, but I clipped them at certain points, creating around 20 short parts. I liked this idea, because it made it look more professional, and to make sure the video never got slow.
What choices did I have to make when creating this project?
One choice that I had to decide was who I was going to interview, and what I would want them saying in the video. I knew that I wanted friends and family in the video, to show regular people who read. Overall, I think that both of these went very well, because the video was never slow at any points, it was full of information, and kids were interested to see their classmates in the video. I was very pleased with how the video turned out, and I think people enjoyed seeing it on Twitter.
Reflection:
I think my project went very well, and it got a lot of attention on Twitter. The end product is exactly what I had envisioned in my proposal, and I don't think it could've gone any better. I think it was successful in the fact that it got 12 likes for a school video. The only challenge I had was when one user, who did not like my tribute to Mac Miller, replied with "F-cked up to use somebody's death to promote your sh-itty video man. This definitely ain't it chief." Mac Miller was one of my favorite rappers when I was in middle school, and I don't think he understood that I used the hashtag to commemorate him. Other than that, the video went well. In the future, I hope the video continues to inspire others, because I have pinned it to my profile. So anytime someone visits my Twitter, it will be the first thing they see. Overall, I am very pleased with how my project went.

DeleteHey Reed I loved your video and was happy to be a part of this "campaign." Great editing skills and I received the message very clearly. Love to see the likes on the tweet keep climbing. Hopefully my poster will grab your attention as well!

DeleteI liked how in your video you got a wide range of people. You didn't just get people from U of D, you got people of all ages. I liked this because the benefits of reading benefit people of all ages.

DeleteLoved the video Reed, the production and quality is amazing
ReplyDeleteReed, great video! Also, what a very organized blog post! So easy to follow and understand. I also liked that you thought enough to pin the tweet to your profile to make sure it continued to get exposure, even when time would push it lower and lower in the newsfeed and your profile. Great job!
